NECRONOMICON 2017!! Part 3!!

NecronomiCon 2017 starts this week I think it'll be hard to miss me there. I'll be vending, on two panels and in the Ars Necronomica art show. Here are some more details!

So on top of the Stories From the Borderland Live! event, I'll be on a panel about contemporary artists inspired by weird fiction. It's going to be moderated by Skinner so get ready for some fun weirdness!

Sunday 3pm
CONTEMPORARY WEIRD ART
Garden Room, Biltmore 2nd Floor
Our panel of contemporary artists will be discussion trends in Weird Art, their experiences as creators, and the relationship between their work and Weird Fiction.
Panelists: Sara Bardi, Michael Bukowski, Jeanne D’Angelo, Justine Jones, Lee Joyner, Skinner, Stephen Wilson

I'll also have two pieces in the 2017 Ars Necronomica show along with Seventh Church Ministries alumni Alan Brown, Jeanne D’Angelo, Justine Jones, Nick Gucker as well as future alumni Marcelo Gallegos & Dave Felton. You can click here for the full details.
Wonders Of the Visible Weird, August 16-31
NecronomiCon Providence and the Lovecraft Arts & Sciences Council are pleased to present Ars Necronomica: Wonders of the Visible Weird, a group exhibition, at the Woods-Gerry Gallery at the Rhode Island School of Design, 62 Prospect Street, Providence.
The show will run from August 16 through August 31, with an opening reception the evening of Thursday, August 17 from 6:00-8:00pm.
Wonders of the Visible Weird features paintings, prints, sculptures, and illustrations by more than seventy contemporary artists who explore the themes of weird fiction and cosmic horror, inspired by the works of Providence-born writer H. P. Lovecraft and other authors and artists of Weird. The exhibit showcases new and upcoming artists as well as new or rarely seen works by many of the established artists who have put form to the unnameable and indescribable for decades.

I'll be showing my "A Voice In the Night" piece (inspired by William Hope Hodgson's short story of the same name) and my "The Novel Of the White Powder" piece (inspired by Arthur Machen's short story of the same name).

NECRONOMICON 2017!! Part 2!

NecronomiCon 2017 is quickly approaching and I'll be there vending, paneling and arting!

So, on top of the two zines I announced yesterday, I'll also be debuting the first volume of Stories From the Borderland. This is my collaboration with Scott Nicolay, where he highlights an influential but "forgotten" weird tale in an essay and I make a drawing to go along with it. This zine will collect the first 5 essays and a bonus essay that we'll be debuting at NecronomiCon.

How are we going to debut a new Stories From the Borderland at NecronomiCon? Well, here's the info!

STORIES FROM THE BORDERLAND – LIVE!Renaissance Room, Biltmore 17th Floor Special Presentation: Featuring the art of Michael Bukowski and Jeanne D’Angelo, with discussion led by Anya Martin and Scott Nicolay.
“Bringing the Stories Back Alive: Expanding and Illustrating the Canon of The Weird” During
NecronomiCon 2015, Michael Bukowski and Scott Nicolay first conceived the idea for Stories from the Borderland, their unique collaborative project designed to introduce audiences to great weird stories that have fallen through the cracks of the canon–and the monsters that inhabit them. Sixteen episodes later, Michael and Scott return to Providence to share a new & never before seen episode of SFTB before a live audience, followed by a discussion of the research behind the series led by project editor Anya Martin. For a grand finale, artist Jeanne D’Angelo will debut the art for the new parallel series, Tales from the Crossroads.

I also mentioned that I'll have reprints of some older Seventh Church Ministries zines. These will be extremely limited (Alan Brown's I See A Shadow Coming and Gunsho's Goetia will be limited to ONE copy each).

NECRONOMICON 2017!

So this will be the first post about the upcoming NecronomiCon in Providence RI on August 17th-20th. If you've never been, NecronomiCon is a fantastic, all-encompasing, survey of the Weird in fiction, film and gaming. I've been the last 2 times (it's biannually so 2013 and 2015) and I honestly was amazed at how fun and well organized it was. I not only got to see amazing art, hear amazing insights from experts but I made a lot of friends.

There's amazing speakers, cool vendors and interesting panels on all sorts of Weird subjects. A few of the guests of honor are Peter Straub (Ghost Story, Koko, In the Night Room), Nnedi Okorofor (Who Fears Death which has just been optioned for an HBO series to be produced by George R. R. Martin), Richard Stanley (director of Hardware & Dust Devil) and Ellen Datlow (editor of Best Horror of the Year, Lovecraft's Monsters & Lovecraft Unbound).

This year I'll be on two different panels and will be releasing THREE brand new zines! You can find me at the Seventh Church Ministries table with Jeanne D'Angel, Justine Jones and maybe Alan Brown and Kati Driscoll! I'll also have reprints (in very limited numbers) of various Seventh Church Ministries zines. Here's the info on my new books:

Appalachian Compendium is a zine dedicated to monsters from the writing of Manly Wade Wellman! His unique blend of the weird is a combination of world mythology but firmly rooted in the folklore of the Appalachian Mountains.

Mappaemundi Compendium is a zine that was inspired by a trip the Cloisters in NYC and includes 10 drawings of monsters from medieval and renaissance maps.

The last is the first volume of Stories From the Borderland but more on that tomorrow!

And of course, there are still some copies of the Illustro Obscurum Tingleverse Compendium available in the Yog-blogsoth store!

REVERSE TWIN

REVERSE TWIN
“This buck is your reverse twin. he will haunt you until you remove your skin and hands as a screaming, broken man.” “When you’re at the store and suddenly remember your bones belong to your own reverse twin.”

SENTIENT CLONED WIENER

SENTIENT CLONED WEINER
“You didn't tell me you'd make a copy of my dick from a parallel universe!' I
counter."

'”Well put me back!' yells the midsection. 'I can't even move like this, I've got no body! I'm just hips and a dick!”

“’Listen, it's too dangerous to send you back, I'm very sorry,' says Tomp. 'What I can do is build you a nice set of mechanical wings so you can fly around.'”

VOID WORM

VOID WORM
"The most common type of worm in The Void is about the size of a human arm, and resembles a tentacle that you would find connected to a large squid. These creatures appear so similar to the appendages of our ocean dwelling friends, in fact, that they are often referred to as tentacles
themselves, although this is technically incorrect because they do not
connect to a larger beast.”

“Along the bottom of these worms are several rows of suction cups that are used for gripping, moving, and feeding on the souls of the suffering and disenfranchised.”
Chuck Tingle, Dr. Chuck Tingle’s Complete Guide To the Void

OTHERWORLDLY BEAST

OTHERWORLDLY BEAST
"Seconds later, I see a rather large beast emerging from the
shadows. I stumble back in terror as I find myself face to face with a handsome, yet terrifying, velociraptor who sports a
flower for a head."

“The massive beast steps forward, allowing an enormous,
hardening cock to spring out from his scaly body. I can tell exactly what he wants me to do just from the look on his prehistoric flower face, and I’m happy to oblige.”
Chuck Tingle, Stranger Pounds

VOID CRAB

VOID CRAB
“Void Crabs are similar in appearance to the lake crabs you might find on this layer of reality, although their shells are jet black and their claws are slightly larger. Along with these external differences, Void Crabs contain no internal organs to speak of, powered entirely by a thick, tarlike substance that fills their shell.”
Chuck Tingle, Dr. Chuck Tingle’s Complete Guide To the Void

TINGLEVERSE COMPENDIUM!

Hey everyone! Here's the info on the Illustro Obscurum Tingleverse Compendium! This zine will be based on the work of gay erotic author, two time Hugo Award Finalist and Tae Kwon Do grandmaster Dr. Chuck Tingle.

ILLUSTRO OBSCURUM TINGLEVERSE COMPENDIUM
AVAILABLE: AVAILABLE FRIDAY JULY 28TH 11AM EST
IN THE YOG-BLOGSOTH STORE
LIMITED TO 100 COPIES, $25 EACH

I've been posting some of the creatures (ranging from handsome to terrifying) here this week, but I haven't touched on the bonus material that will accompany the zine. We'll have a short fan-fiction story written by Brad Omen, a set of three Pokebutt cards illustrated by Caitlin McCormack and an illustrated Chuck Tingle shopping list (trust me it's hilarious) by Kati Driscoll.

This zine will be limited to 100 hand assembled & signed copies. This zine will also be a benefit for the Philadelphia-based Adolescent Initiative:

"The
Adolescent Initiative provides clinical care, research, and prevention services to adolescents at-risk for or living with HIV. The program helps bring HIV-positive and high-risk adolescents into an environment where they can feel comfortable receiving healthcare. One groundbreaking subset of the AI works inside the Philadelphia Juvenile Justice Services Center, providing sexuality education, advocacy, and support to LGBTQ youth in detention. The AI is completely grand funded."

For the covers, we used special paper from a lower level of the Tingleverse. This paper holds love better than all other materials and will exude good feels to all true buckaroos that hold it, so don't be surprised if the color fades over time.
